- Aqua Tail

This team is actually 2 teams put together. The first two Pokemon I pick are based on whether or not I think I can sweep my opponent, or if there is a variety of types, or some specific Pokemon like Primal Kyogre/Groudon.

The Politoed and Swampert are always paired together, Charizard and Hitmontop always together, and Yveltal and Lickilicky are always paired too. If I want my Rain team to come out, I go with Swampert and Politoed, with Yveltal and Lickilicky as the backups. My Sun team is Charizard and Hitmontop, with Yveltal and Lickilicky as backups again.

First Turn:
The first turn, my Mega Pokemon uses protect and goes mega. Hitmontop will Fake Out anyone who may be a threat to Charizard, but remember, you can't use it on ghost types. Politoed will use Icy Wind on the first turn unless I need to use Hypnosis to put a major threat to sleep.

Rain Team:
Icy Wind slows down their first step immediately. Due to Swift Swim, Swampert is usually always the fastest on the field, especially after their Pokemon were being hit by an Icy Wind a turn before. Its moveset gives it max coverage while also supplying powerful moves. Waterfall in incredibly boosted with: Rain, STAB, and Helping Hand. Politoed's job is to slow down any fast Pokemon with Icy Wind, take some hits, use helping hand when necessary, hit anything with Scald that might not be OHKO'd by Swampert, and use Hypnosis for immediate threats (like Primal Pokemon or certain Legendaries) when Swampert is otherwise busy that turn. It has a Sitrus berry for longevity (this thing is more of a tank than you think). Yveltal and Lickilicky are designed as minor backups for this team because its designed to end the battle in less than 5 turns. Swampert should OHKO just about anything with Waterfall.

Sun Team:
Hitmontop started with Fake Out on any threats or Mega Pokemon on the first turn. Its just an annoying little quip that delays the start of the real battle while your Charizard goes Mega. He uses protect on the first turn as well, as a precaution. Hitmontop rarely has to use Helping Hand as his Bullet Punch and Mach Punch can hit mostly anything. Bullet Punch is always a 2HKO on Gardevoir. Helping Hand is usually used when Heat Waving something until it dies. He can take quite a hit too thanks to his defenses. His priority moves means speed is optimal. Charizard can handle many threats thanks to Solar Beam being a single turn move and Air Slash usually getting a critical hit. Even Salamence, which resists Heat Wave and Solar Beam, is outdone with 2 Air Slashes or 1 Helping Handed Air Slash. This pair has the most versatility compared to the Rain team, and is meant to be used as a wider sweeping team. Not sure if your Rain team can handle all their Pokemon? ANY doubts about your Swampert taking on their team? Choose this one. Again, Yveltal and Lickilicky are designed mostly for the Primal Pokemon but still make excellent backups overall. Yveltal can OHKO any Mewtwo with Sucker Punch, and takes quite a chunk out of Primal Kyogre/Groudon's health to help Lickilicky. Yveltal's Foul Play also works wonders on Primal Groudon too!

Yveltal was mostly designed as a Mewtwo counter, as its Sucker Punch can take out Mewtwo or Mega Mewtwo Y in 1 hit every time, and Oblivion Wing can take out Mega Mewtwo X in 1 hit too. Lickilicky was harder as there aren't many Pokemon that can take on the Primal Pokemon all by itself. However, Cloud Nine removes their weather effects, and a single Power Whip or Aqua Tail is all that is needed for them. The Gyro Ball is there for Xerneas, which is a direct threat to Yveltal. Swords Dance is just in case he has a free turn. Lickilicky also works nicely as a tank, taking damage and slowing down their momentum while you take a deep breath and remember some strategy.

And thats the team I made for VGC 2015/2016 and even with Z-Moves, I think I'm gonna keep this team as my VGC 2017 team too. It works very well, and like any other team, you need to practice with it and learn battle strategy before using this in competition. It takes time and effort to be a Pokemon Master, not a good team and luck!
